Lead Report: The Suffolk County Legislature just passed Resolution 1660, which permits the County and the National Offshore Wind Training Center (NOWTC) to enter a license agreement for the space at 350 Crooked Hill Rd. in Brentwood, NY. This center will serve as an opportunity to not only provide Global Wind Organization (GWO) certification by Maersk Training but meet additional workforce needs for the region. Lead Report: After months of meetings, events, and webinars, New York’s third offshore wind solicitation is moving forward. On July 27, Governor Hochul announced the procurement of up to 2GW of offshore wind capacity for projects; supply chain investment plans (SCIP) of up to $300-$450 million to fund localize component manufacturing and ports; utilization of meshed-ready offshore grid connection for projects; and a workforce, jobs, and stakeholder engagement plans requirement. Lead Report: Climate Jobs NY (CJNY) continues to monitor and advocate for strong labor standards in the State's 3rd offshore wind solicitation. This solicitation is robust in that it addresses many sectors within the offshore wind industry by not only selecting more projects to meet the state's energy targets, but $500 million phased investments in the domestic supply chain; analyzing meshed-ready and meshed offshore grid systems; Buy-American steel and iron provisions; and looking at future energy storage capabilities. Lead Report: This month we had a great Climate Change and Offshore Wind Session with over 100 apprentices at IUOE Local 30's training center in Whitestone. Members from NYC, Long Island, Westchester, and New Jersey were thoroughly engaged in learning about NY's clean energy goals, our offshore wind projects, and Local 30's role in the just transition to clean energy. Lead Report. Biden-Harris Administration Sets Offshore Energy Records with $4.37 Billion in Winning Bids for Wind Sale! After 64 rounds of bidding, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) concluded the 3-day "Lease-O-Rama" for the six areas in the NY Bight. Lead Report: New York's first offshore wind project is completely permitted! On January 19, the Federal Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) approved the Construction and Operations Plan, which is the final decision needed to start construction. This historic approval could not have been realized without local leaders doing what is right for their community and years of grassroots organizing by community organizations, including LI labor. Lead Report: We did it! The South Fork Offshore Wind Project has all state approvals to become our first offshore wind project. Last week, the New York Public Service Commission (PSC) approved the Environmental Management and Construction Plan (EM&CP) and the Federal Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) issued its Record of Decision on the project. Lead Report: During American Clean Power's Offshore Wind Conference in Boston this month, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management announced the nation's path forward to achieve 30GW of offshore wind by 2030. This includes seven lease auctions by 2025 including areas off the coasts of Maine, California, Oregon, and the first of which will be the waters in the NY bight to be auctioned in Q1 2022.
