Statement from Climate Jobs NY in Response to Governor Hochul’s Sustainable Future Program and Charge Agenda

New York, NY - Climate Jobs NY released the following statement in response to Governor Hochul’s Climate Week announcements allocating the $1 billion Sustainable Future Fund, the Energy Infrastructure Development Plan, and the CHARGE initiative: 

Esther Rosario, Executive Director of Climate Jobs New York, said: “New York's clean energy transition is the biggest infrastructure project of our generation, and it should be built by the New Yorkers who power our economy every day. This investment puts union workers to work upgrading the grid, retrofitting schools and public housing, and building the thermal energy networks and renewables that will bring down costs for families. 

“We're glad to see increased investment in NY-Sun, thermal energy networks, NYPA renewables, and school and housing decarbonization programs that will allow our members to build. The new Energy Infrastructure Development Plan will also streamline our energy planning process, and we’re hopeful this will allow us to get shovels in the ground faster. 

“As the Governor's CHARGE agenda moves forward, we look forward to continued work with the Administration to protect strong labor standards so this transition builds the family-sustaining union jobs that New York’s working families deserve.”
