Climate Jobs NY and Labor Groups Applaud Court Decision Protecting Sunrise Wind and Thousands of Good Union Jobs

February 2, 2026 – Today, Climate Jobs NY, the New York State Building and Construction Trades, and the Long Island Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO applauded a federal judge’s decision granting Orsted a preliminary injunction that allows construction of the Sunrise Wind project to continue. This decision prevents the Trump Administration from stopping the project and momentum in New York’s clean energy transition. 

“Sunrise Wind is already delivering thousands of high-quality, union jobs while helping build a more affordable New York. We are grateful for the court's decision, protecting offshore wind, the workers who build it, and the billions of overdue investments made to strengthen the energy infrastructure on Long Island and beyond,” said Esther Rosario, Executive Director, Climate Jobs NY.

“This court decision is another major win for union workers and their families statewide. Sunrise Wind supports family-sustaining jobs for skilled tradespeople across New York and will help our state achieve energy independence. Union workers are thankful to get back to work building a cleaner, healthier energy future for our state,” said Gary LaBarbera, President, NYS Building Trades and Construction Trades Council. 

“Sunrise Wind is going to deliver much-needed generation for Long Island, and has created thousands of good-paying union jobs. Building our critical energy infrastructure strengthens Long Island’s energy security.  These are all things that need to stop being politicized.  Today’s decision is not just a victory for workers and Long Island as a region, but is a clear victory for common sense,” said Ryan Stanton, Executive Director, Long Island Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO.

“Today’s ruling lifting the stop work order is a return to sanity after yet another attempt of disruption by the Federal Government to stop the Offshore Wind Industry. Sunrise Wind can now move forward delivering good union jobs, grid reliability, and real progress that Long Island cannot afford to lose.”  said John Durso, President, Long Island Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO.
